Family-owned boutique hotel to open in Southend in January after £4m renovation

Seven Hotel

A new family-owned boutique hotel is preparing to open its doors in January 2018, following a £4 complete transformation of a former care home in Southend.

Seven Hotel will be a new luxury 37 bedroom boutique once it opens in a month’s time, complete with 70-cover Aurum Restaurant and gin-centric bar which will feature over 30 types of gin.

The project is being headed up by owners Javed Rashid, and his son-in-laws Omar Rahimi and Sadiq Chikte, who told BH that the new hotel will become the flagship for the new brand, with the aim of opening three hotels within five years.

The building was acquired in June 2016 and has been undergoing a renovation ever since, with Adam Tibbatts heading up the interior design.

The new Aurum restaurant will be headed up by Simon Webb, who has worked with the Roux family and Mcihelin-starred Simon Hulstone. His menu will be inspired by modern British cuisine and will lean on local Essex suppliers and producers.

Speaking to BH in July this year, Chikte said: “We want to make it the best hotel in the whole of Essex, not just Southend, bringing something new to the area in terms of accommodation and the restaurant. Customer service will be key here and getting staff trained right. We are working with big brands in London to train our staff, so they are trained both at the hotel and in London.”
