FIRST LOOK: Bike & Boot Hotel to open in July

The construction project to create the new Bike & Boot Hotel in Scarborough has completed, ready for its launch in July.

Infiniti Roofing and Construction battled through Covid-19 lockdown and worked with social distancing measures to finish a full refurbishment of the property, which has seen the 50-bedroom The Mount Hotel transformed into the 65-bedroom debut Bike & Boot Hotel, close to Scarborough’s waterfront.

The Bike & Boot also comprises an in-house cinema, e-bike charging station, a dog and boot wash and a refurbished hybrid bar-café-restaurant and kitchen areas.

Prior to construction, Infiniti pre-empted the lockdown closure of the main trade builders merchants by buying the majority of the materials they needed to finish the work, including all the wet walling for the bathrooms, all joinery supplies, and all plumbing fittings and fixtures.

It also meant the company had to source additional fully experienced, available, skilled contractors.

Once the workers were on site another major challenge was ensuring their safety through social distancing, which was achieved using signage, floor and wall markings, Hi-Viz and intelligentclothing and exact, pre-planned operational movements of workers around the site.

Marcus Rowe, director of Infiniti Roofing & Construction said: “We were able to do it, but it wasn’t straightforward by any stretch as, quite understandably, many contractors were simply not available to work.”

In January, it was revealed that hospitality industry entrepreneurs Simon Rhatigan and Simon Kershaw, had acquired a hotel in Scarborough to launch as the first in their new brand, Bike and Boot.

Rhatigan is the former managing director at Devonshire Hotels and Restaurant until 2016, and Kershaw is the ex-chairman of the northern region of the British Hospitality Association.

“Infiniti have successfully worked through the Covid-19 situation; that has been a real bonus as they have ensured the safety of all contractors, with social distancing measures and safe working practices,” said Kershaw.

“Infiniti keeping us going through Covid-19 has been great for the local contractors but also great for us. It could have been disastrous.”

Interior designer Rachel McLane has been working on the Bike & Boot from the early concept stage.
