FIRST LOOK: Scottish boutique hotel reopens bar and restaurant after ‘biggest refurb in history’

Le Monde re-opens after refurbishment.

Le Monde, a boutique hotel in Edinburgh, has reopened its bar and restaurant after the ‘biggest refurbishment in its history’.

The 18-bedroom boutique hotel has completed a four-month, £1m renovation to transform the ground floor bar and restaurant into a glamourous new destination, 13 years after the hotel first opened its doors.

New food and drink menus have also been introduced, including a new small plate dining menu, inspired by world flavours and Scottish produce.

A new semi-circular Laurent Perrier champagne bar, complete with marble bar top, crimson leather bar stools, and velvet booths has been installed, as well as a newly tiled marble herringbone walkway.

The new-look restaurant and bar has been designed to showcase the building’s Georgian architecture, with velvets, brass and custom made artwork used throughout.

Darren Scott joined the venue in early 2019 as general manager to oversee the refurbishment and manage operations, while Mike Caldwell takes up the post of bar manager.

Michael Wren is restaurant manager and the kitchen will be headed by Daniel Schlegal,

Commenting on the re-opening, Darren Scott said: “The newly refurbished bar and restaurant areas are simply stunning. The décor exudes the kind of warm cosmopolitan glamour and relaxed luxury that make you want to settle into a booth and while away the day or evening in great company! To top it all, we have some brilliant new managers, kitchen and bar teams joining our charming front of house staff, and we can’t wait to welcome customers, new and old, to celebrate a new era of Le Monde with us.”

The venue’s refurbishment was designed and project managed by architecture and interior design studio RYE Design.

The newly designed Le Monde also features five event spaces and the venue also houses the Dirty Martini, Le Monde’s upstairs bar and event space; and Shanghai Nightclub.
