Former Bridgwater Hospital site with permission for 100-bed hotel up for sale to developers

A development site near the new Hinkley Point C power station in Somerset has been put on the market for £2.6m.

Marketed by property consultancy firm Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), the site of the former Bridgwater Hospital, which is within a short walk of the town centre, has already secured planning permission for a 100-bed hotel and restaurant, a children’s day nursery and leisure club.

There are further potential development opportunities on the 2.13 acre site, including retail, residential and office space, subject to planning consent.

The land’s close proximity to the Hinkley Point C power station, which is due to open in 2025, is seen as a massive benefit by LSH’s director Simon Stevens: “This is an unusual, rarely available site with excellent potential in an area that is already benefiting from significant investment,” he said.

“Hinkley Point is expected to create more than 25,000 new jobs in the region and generate significant opportunity for local, national and international businesses, as well as enhance demand for housing and overall values in the area.”
