Former Cumbrian Michelin-starred chef Kevin Tickle is to take the plunge and open the first hotel of his own in a partnership with his wife Nicola.
Tickle, who most recently was head chef at Forest Side until 2019 where he won his first Michelin star with eight months of opening the restaurant, has taken over a 17th century coaching inn in the Lake District village of High Newton, to transform into a new inn with rooms later this year.
Following a complete refurbishment of the building’s kitchen, bar, restaurant and bedrooms, the couple will aim to open the new venture in late autumn.
Nicola Tickle will oversee front of house and the six bedrooms, while Kevin will take charge in the kitchen. Prior to his role at Forest Side, owned by Wildsmith Hotels, Tickle worked for Simon Rogan at L’Enclume, Cartmel for eight years.
Kevin and Nicola commented: ‘’We’ve been searching for the right venue for a while now and the 17th century coaching we’ve found is perfect.
The potential for the building is huge and we both know that we can really make it something special. We have started clearing the decks and the builders are due to move in shortly and help us get the place just the way we want it. Once that’s sorted by mid to late autumn we will reveal our vision for the place, which people will understand when we reveal it.’’
