A unique hotel in the heart of the ancient walled city of Arezzo, Tuscany has gone up for sale.
The 26 beautiful, individually designed rooms, some with original frescoed ceilings, have large bathrooms containing rain effect showers and massage sprays…some even have baths for two.
There are family rooms, a lift and 24-hour service.
The picturesque Grand Piazza of the city hosts the twice yearly spectacle of the Joust of the Saracen, with its stunning medieval costumed figures walking in stately procession amidst knights in armour on horseback, culminating in the fierce competition in the Piazza for the prize of the Golden Lance, a tradition dating back to the 13th century.
It is a city which gave birth to the poet Petrarch and the painter and art historian Giorgio Vasari, both of whose houses can be visited, and the monk Guido Monaco, inventor of musical notation. The Vasari loggia flanks the north side of the Piazza while the beautiful 12th century Pieve can be visited on the east side.
The city is dominated by the imposing 13th century Cathedral and in the nearby Basilica of San Francesco is the world famous fresco cycle of The Legend of the True Cross by Piero Della Francesca, another famous resident of the city. Amongst other attractions are the Etruscan museum, a museum of medieval art and a Roman amphitheatre. During the summer the many squares host open air concerts and there is a famous monthly antique market. The city is the centre of the gold industry and there is an excellent shopping centre boasting handmade leather goods.
Transport links are excellent with easy access to the motorway and the hotel is only a short walk from the station with fast trains to Florence taking only an hour and Rome two and a half hours.
This is an opportunity not to be missed, arrange a viewing as soon as possible.
