Highlight of your career so far? Opening Newcastle Hotel du Vin in 2008 with a management team entirely made up of the companies graduate program employees. From building site, to successful hotel, it was a fantastic experience.

Last hotel you stayed at? Pullman London St Pancras.

Best piece of advice you ever received? Treat everyone how you would like to be treated.

Biggest service bugbear? Poor ambience or lighting – it can ruin an evening.

If you went on Stars in their Eyes, who would you portray? You couldn’t pay me to do this!

Which other company (inside or outside the industry) do you most admire and why? Not a company, but the Blood Bikes Charity – it’s an incredible cause and it’s run by passionate people who are continually working (and cycling) for the benefit of others.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to work in the morning? Walk around, say hello to the team and get a strong coffee.

Your first job? Kitchen porter at Homewood Park Hotel & Spa, aged 14.

If you weren’t a hotelier what would you be doing? I’d be playing for Arsenal (it was plan B).

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? Continuing to learn and improve within the Industry.

Your dream job? I have it.

Something you wish you knew before joining the industry: I have learnt to love the fact that the job is never complete and the learning process in the industry is ongoing.
