Gilsland Hall Hotel for sale with asking price of £1.55m

Gilsland Hall Hotel in Cumbria has been put up for sale with an asking price of £1.55m on behalf of administrators working for Northern Powerhouse Developments.

The 93-bedroom hotel set over four floors was placed into administration in August alongside Caer Rhun Hall in Conwy, Fourcroft hotel in Tenby, Pembrokeshire and the Esplanade in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, all operated by NPD.

Now the hotel has been brought to market on behalf of Daniel Richardson of CG & Co.

As well as the 93 letting bedrooms, the hotel comprises a large dining/restaurant and a bistro bar catering for up 260 residents and guests, a large function room which, when combined with the orangery, can host up to 160, ideal for weddings and parties.

There is also a small meeting/conference room on the ground floor.

Externally there are seven houses, including two disused “bothy” cottages, two staff houses and a very large villa, which is derelict but could be converted to provide spa facilities, holiday lets or residential use, subject to planning consent.

Mark Worley, director at Christie & Co is handling the sale and comments: “This is an excellent opportunity for a hotel operator to obtain a large country house hotel with massive scope to increase trade and profits. The asking price is expected to generate significant interest from a range of potential buyers.”

The finances of the NPD’s chairman Gavin Woodhouse were investigated by The Guardian and ITV in June, with Duff & Phelps appointed interim managers to carry out a ‘detailed assessment and forensic investigation’ into where unaccounted money may have disappeared to.

The group has also ‘strenuously denied any wrongdoing’.
