The owner of a hotel in Hampshire is looking to expand with 18 new bedrooms as part of a £1.5m development project.

Tim Wedgewood has submitted plans to add the new bedrooms in an extra storey at the three-star South Lawn Hotel at Milford on Sea on the south coast.

The property currently has 26 bedrooms and struggles to meet demand.

If the proposed development is approved by New Forest District Council the number of rooms will rise to 44.

Giving its initial assessment of the application the council says its economic development manager supports the proposed development, which would allow a “popular and well-reviewed” hotel to increase capacity.

Councillors will make a decision on August 11.

Wedgewood purchased South Lawn Hotel in 2015 and operates the property alongside East Close Hotel in Hinton.
