Hospitality sector to get seasonal boost with four-day bank holiday to mark Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Hotels, pubs and restaurants will benefit from a much-needed seasonal boost next summer with the announcement of a new four-day bank holiday introduced to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen’s seven-decade reign will be celebrated with a variety of events over a special bank holiday weekend from June 2-5, 2022.

A special Trooping the Colour will take place with more than 1,400 parading soldiers, as well as a pageant featuring 5,000 performers, while a live concert at Buckingham Palace, called the Platinum Party at the Palace, will feature the ‘world’s biggest entertainment stars’.

The events will mark the Queen’s 70-year reign; she acceded the throne on February 6 1952 at just 25 years old. She becomes the first British Monarch to reach the milestone.

As with the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilees, the first week in June has been chosen for the celebratory weekend, with the summer offering a better chance of good weather than February. The bumper bank holiday will bring a much-needed boost for hospitality businesses next year when the full extent of the pandemic will be felt by many as with many government support schemes coming to an end.
