Hotel Gotham in Manchester took the crown for Most Stylish Independent Hotel at the Hilden Style Awards, which celebrate the best hospitality, restaurant and care home design.
The Awards, which were open to small to medium or independent venues, aimed to find the crème-de-la-crème of smaller, more intimate venues which may otherwise have gone unnoticed amongst the larger chains and groups.
Hotel Gotham opened in April 2015 inside the former bank building at the top of King Street, designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens and dating back to 1935.
60 bedrooms are spread over seven floors, a restaurant Honey up on the sixth floor, and the private members bar Club Brass is located on the top floor. The rooftop pool is a striking element of Hotel Gotham and a first for the city of Manchester.
The nine finalists for the Hilden Style Awards were revealed earlier in September and following visits by Vision representatives to each of the establishments, the winners were then chosen following an intensive judging process.
Winning the coveted restaurant category was sketch restaurant, in Mayfair, for its quirky and unique design.
Celebrating individual style and a keen eye for design, the annual awards came back for 2016 with a new look, new judges, new prizes and new categories.
Judging this year’s awards were: Lee Birchall; architect and managing director of DV8 Designs, Vitoria Hargreaves; Vision’s hospitality sales manager, Gemma Ralph; deputy editor of Hospitality Interiors magazine, Ellie Tennant; interior design journalist, Lucy Forsyth; Vision’s healthcare interior design specialist and Jeremy Tring; editor of Eat.Drink.Sleep magazine.
The winners will receive a double-page spread in the annual Hilden Style Guide, £500 to spend at Vision’s online store, a case of Champagne, a pair of Liddell bathrobes and a personalised glass trophy amongst others.
