Hotel operating as ‘local pub’ in Dorset looks for new owner with spare £1.7m

A 16th century hotel overlooking a beach in Dorset is looking for a new owner, through Colliers International.

Offers in the region of £1.7m are being invited for the Manor House in West Bexington, a 13-bedroom hotel and four-bedroom private house set in two acres of grounds, that is said to also operate as the area’s ‘local pub’.

Ed Jefferson from Colliers International’s hotels team said: “With one foot in Thomas Hardy country and the other on the Jurassic Coast, this Grade II listed hotel is in an excellent spot to enjoy year-round trade. Originally a farmhouse, the hotel has excellent views over the countryside, Chesil Beach, and out to sea, ‘where country meets coast’.”

The property has been under the same ownership since 2010, operating as a family lifestyle business and has been extensively refurbished.

The 13 bedrooms are spread across the first and second floors, with the restaurant normally laid for 40 covers but can accommodate 60 in a private function.

There is also a residents’ lounge which can also be used for private dining for up to 25 covers.

The Manor House offers owners’ accommodation to the same standard as the hotel.

The house was constructed in 1990 and is connected to the hotel at the ground floor and has four double bedrooms (three en suite) overlooking Chesil Beach. There is also a one-bedroom staff annexe.”

In addition to the present facilities the former skittle alley has a lapsed planning permission for development.

Jefferson adds: “The Manor House enjoys a truly stunning year-round location within a short walk of the beach but is also ideally located to explore the Jurassic Coast World heritage site and spend time in the busy centres of Weymouth, Bridport and Dorchester.”
