InterContinental Hotels Group has opened its newest voco branded hotel in the UK, transforming the former De Vere Oxford Thames into its third property in the portfolio.
The hotel was acquired in 2019 as part of IHG’s strategic partnership with Covivio to acquire 12 De Vere and Principal properties and now joins voco St David’s Cardiff and voco St John’s Solihull in the group.
The 104-bedroom hotel has been given a complete refresh, alongside its Conservatory Restaurant, Crusaders Bar and Lounge and The Oxford Thames Spa and Leisure Club.
Following the launch, IHG’s upscale brand voco is now gaining more momentum in the market wither further properties in the pipeline.
Elle Garner, general manager, voco Oxford Thames said: “We are incredibly excited to be the third hotel in the UK to join the voco™ family. My team is thrilled to bring this new brand to life in Oxford and look forward to welcoming guests, new and old, with a warm welcome.”
All bedding at voco hotels is made from 100% recycled materials, glass water bottles replace over 300 plastic bottles in every guest room per year and aerated shower heads reduce bathroom water usage.
In addition, miniature toiletry bottles have been replaced with large-format Aveda bottles, and plastic straws have been swapped for a biodegradable alternative.
IHG currently has 349 hotels operating under eight brands in the UK, including: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, voco, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites, with a further 26 in the pipeline.
