Rob Greacen is the managing director of Stay Original Company.
Since its inception in 2011, he and his team have grown the company’s South West portfolio to five properties and more than 130 employees. Every aspect of the business is controlled in house and all the assets are owned freehold.
With a background in commercial property, the Irish entrepreneur is something of an industry newcomer. An investment in River Cottage gave him his first foray into the food scene in the South West.
Greacen’s ambition was to create a new hospitality brand in the South West, one that would balance a welcoming vibe with a stylish offering and appeal to customers across the board. The resulting collection of award-winning stylish country inns are loved and lauded by locals, destination visitors and the press. Each unique property has an authentic style and character, delivering first class food, drink and accommodation. All come under his guidance and active, straight forward approach, and benefit from his foresight and swift response to consumer demands.
Greacen’s egalitarian approach is also applied to his expanding team. Within its ranks several young members of staff have risen from entry-level jobs to management and board-level positions. Alongside traditional training and mentoring programmes, Stay Original Co mastermind a dynamic programme of company parties, food and drink research expeditions and reward-based trips, creating an engaged, loyal and happy team.
Following a £5m spend, December 2019 sees the opening of The King’s Arms in Dorchester, a 34-bedroom establishment with the trademark Stay Original style and attention to detail. 2020 will be a significant year for Greacen and Stay Original with The King’s Arms open for business and the target of achieving 10 properties fully underway.
