Stuart Johnson cut his teeth in hospitality as an apprentice chef at The Savoy after leaving school at 16. After a few years of experience, he moved to a junior management role at Claridge’s before leaving to join Cliveden as front of house manager.
At the age of 32 he became the youngest ever hotel manager at The Savoy, before the drive for his first GM position attracted him back to Cliveden in 1994. He first joined Brown’s Hotel in 1994, drawn to Sir Rocco Forte’s vision to turn the property into one of the finest hotels in London.
After 12 years, he stayed within the Rocco Forte family but moved to drive the opening of a hotel in China. He returned to Brown’s Hotel in London in 2018 in the new position of managing director. His focus on making sure each guest feels valued and staff excellence has meant Brown’s Hotel remains top of the table when it comes to luxury London hospitality.
“I always say ‘Yes is the answer, what is the question,’” he says.
