Toby Ashworth is managing director and proprietor of The Nare, Cornwall’s five-star hotel. Known as ‘the country house hotel by the sea’, Toby took the business over from his grandmother, Bettye Gray, setting about the management buyout of the family shareholders in 2000.
Inevitably this was a difficult and challenging process but Bettye Gray was determined to see it through and as other members of the family decided to pursue other hotel interests, the buyout was finally completed in 2004. At that time it was the most expensive hotel buy out in the West Country.
Today The Nare flies the flag for a quintessential country house experience, offering a luxury service with all the trimmings and is thriving. Toby champions fine dining, sky-high standards and a tried-and-tested method of personal interaction with each and every guest.
The Nare offers a car chauffeur service from anywhere in the UK, for guests less able to travel as well as two house boats that are able to hire during their stay. The five-star hotel has built up a solid customer base, with Toby pivotal to the way staff treat visitors, with many guests returning time and time again as a result.
