Tweedies Bar and Lodge has set itself a target to stage 15 weddings in one day, as part of plans to mark its 15th birthday.
The Grasmere hotel marks 15 years under the ownership of the Roberts family in 2019 and to kickstart the celebrations, it is unveiling plans for what could be the largest ever Lake District bridal extravaganza.
The hotel is now searching for 15 couples who want to get married in Grasmere this autumn, with each one having their own private ceremony followed by a lavish joint celebration.
One couple will win their all-inclusive wedding entirely for free.
Hotel manager Laura Goodall says: “2019 is a huge year for Tweedies Bar & Lodge and we wanted to do something extraordinary to celebrate. A lot of the couples who head here to get married want something a little bit different and non-traditional, or simply can’t afford to invest in a lavish wedding. So, for one special day in October, we will be bringing together 15 couples for their own private ceremonies followed by a unique joint celebration.
“The last thing we want is a conveyor belt of weddings. Instead, it’s all about offering something fun and quirky which breaks away from the conventional idea of what it means to get married in the Lakes.”
The Roberts family took over Tweedies Bar & Lodge in Grasmere at the end of May in 2004 and have completely transformed what was a run-down village hotel into a thriving 21st century business – most recently rebranding the original Dale Lodge Hotel, to bring it under the overall ‘Tweedies’ brand.
