London duo in charge of catering company acquire Bath hotel

The Holcombe Inn in Bath has been snapped up by ex-Londoners looking to make their mark in the hotel sector after finding success with their catering and events company in the capital.

The property comprises 11 bedrooms and an award-winning restaurant and has been sold through Christie + Co on behalf of sellers ‘Jules and Brad’, who are now moving to France.

Incoming owners, Caroline Gardiner and Alan Lucas have owned LucasGardiner Ltd, a London-based creative catering, consultancy and events company, for the last four years and are relocating to Somerset to take on the new challenge of The Holcombe Inn.

Gardiner previously trained at L’Ecole de Cuisine Francaise in Sussex, before embarking on her career in catering. She will run the operations and logistics side of the company.

Lucas has over 20 years’ experience of fine dining cuisine having worked in restaurants and hotels, including the Mandarin Oriental. He will focus on strengthening the food offering at the property.

Nicholas Calfe, director (Licensed) at Christie & Co, handled the sale comments: “This sale demonstrates the continuing demand for quality freehouses and the importance of having a mixed income stream, which the Holcombe Inn has. The three income streams ensure you attract your local drinkers and diners, destination food trade with the quality letting rooms drawing people from across the country, particularly weekenders from London.”
