Marriott cancels plans for Moxy boutique in Liverpool

Hotel chain Marriott has announced that plans for a new hotel to be built in Liverpool under its boutique brand Moxy have been cancelled because of “issues acquiring the land”.

In March, Marriott revealed that a “Moxy Hotel on Cropper Street in Liverpool is in the pipeline”, but went no further into divulging any details about where the hotel would exactly be located.

The international hotel chain has now confirmed that a Moxy Hotel will not be opening in Liverpool.

Speaking to North West Caterer, Hannah Cadwallader, director of public relations, Europe, for Marriott International said: “Unfortunately, this has now been cancelled due to issues with acquiring the land.”

2014 saw Marriott announce that it had formed a partnership with InterHospitality, a division of furniture retailer Ikea, to open 150 budget hotels under the Moxy name in Europe within the next ten years.

The first Moxy was launched in September in Milan, featuring 162-bedrooms and targeting the value boutique sector.
