New £3.5m boutique hotel yacht development to set sail for Edinburgh

A new hotel is due to set sail for Edinburgh in 2018, as the launch of the city’s first boutique yacht development comes to fruition.

Scheduled for launch in 2018, the £3.5m transformation of a former Northern Lighthouse Board ship will see Fingal open, a 23-bedroom luxury hotel yacht due to be permanently docked in the Port of Leith.

The project is being run by Royal Yacht Britannia’s trading company, Royal Yacht Enterprises, and will be the first of its kind to open in Edinburgh next year.

Each of the 23 individually designed cabins will be named after Stevenson lighthouses, and have been inspired by Fingal’s maritime heritage.

The 237ft long ship will also be home to a double height ballroom, able to seat 80 guests and features a moveable skylight.

The development is being carried out by the Pedley Group, a new company formed by Alan Pedley and Stephen Flanagan. Pedley has been responsible for manufacturing and installing over 180,000 hotel rooms in 61 countries for hotel groups including; IHG, Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott.

Head of hospitality and events, Andrew Thomson, said: “Fingal is like no other in Scotland. It is a privilege to take this historic ship and create a new, exciting and world-class addition to the Scottish tourism landscape. The craftsmanship and design, inspired by Fingal’s provenance and heritage, coupled with the best of Scotland’s larder will ensure our guests’ experience on Fingal is truly memorable.”
