A new luxury boutique hotel is to open at the Duke of Marlborough’s former country estate in Buckinghamshire.
The Langley will open in the summer of 2018 and will be the sister hotel to London’s The Wellesley owned and managed by City and Country Hotels Ltd.
Located in the Langley Park estate, the hotel will be home to 41 bedrooms and a 25,000 sq ft spa set within 500 acres. Comprised of two buildings, a historic mansion that was once the lived in by the Duke of Marlborough and a Grade-II listed 18th century building that was formerly used as a stables and brew house.
The hotel is being designed by Dennis Irvine Studio, who also created the concept for The Wellesley and the two Wellesley yachts and once open will mark the end the four-year multi-million pound restoration project.
The Langley will also join The Luxury Collection of Hotels and Resorts, and become the fourth property in the UK to join the portfolio, operating alongside The Wellesley, The Park Tower Knightsbridge and The Westbury in London.
“Upon opening, The Langley will mark The Luxury Collection’s fourth hotel in England – a significant milestone for the brand as we continue to grow our portfolio in this special destination, rich in history and culture,” said Mitzi Gaskins, global brand leader, The Luxury Collection & JW Marriott. “This new property showcases this property’s unique history and heritage while also highlighting the diversity of our portfolio – from buzzing city hotels to grand country palaces to exotic island hotels.”
The hotel’s Grade-II listed gardens were redesigned in the 18th century by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, while inside The Langley, many of the building’s original features have been restored, including imposing doorways and Baroque fireplaces.
Guestrooms and suites will feature roll-top baths with expansive windows boasting views of the greenery and the open lake.
Opposite the entrance of the main hotel, guests will find The Brewhouse – a Grade ll-listed out-building that will house a number of bedrooms where the former owners concocted their own local brew using old-fashioned methods.
The 25,000 sq ft spa will offer eight treatment rooms, a VIP suite with dip pools, as well as a women’s only thermal area. The gym has been created in partnership with fitness guru Matt Roberts and also includes a Cryotherapy.
The Langley will also be home to a collection of dining experiences, including an intimate bar and a signature restaurant. Afternoon tea will be served in the hotel’s drawing room and back courtyard.
The property’s original Winter Garden has also been refurbished and reconfigured.
“Following the meticulous restoration of this beautiful estate, The Langley is set to be a stunning addition to the Luxury Collection portfolio,” said Jenni Benzaquen, vice president, luxury brands, Europe for Marriott International. “Through carefully curated destination experiences set amidst the lush and exquisite English countryside, The Langley will tell a unique tale of the destination, offering indigenous allure, exquisite local culture, and an unmatched experience for global explorers.”
