New family-led hotel business bidding to cause a stir in Folkestone

The new owners of a hotel in Folkestone are nearing the completion of a major renovation project that has seen the property transformed into a stylish new boutique hotel and restaurant.

Brother and sister team, Dave Mellish and Ann Grundy, are giving the former Salisbury Hotel in Clifton Road a total makeover and creating two new venues – The View Hotel Folkestone and The Cliffe Restaurant and Bar.

The duo is working towards a completion date of July 2016 and is hoping the new four-star venture will attract both local residents and visitors to the town.

“We love bringing old buildings back to life and returning them to their former glory,” Mellish said. “This building was somewhat rundown when we took over and in addition to enhancing the interiors with a high-quality finish, we will be restoring and keeping the original features. It is part of Folkestone’s past and we want to preserve it so it can make a valuable contribution to the town’s future.”

Alongside the new boutique hotel, The Cliffe Restaurant and Bar will offer a British menu that encompasses classic favourites and utilise local produce including fish caught off the Kent coastline.

The restaurant will be managed by Mellish’s son Charlie.
