New general manager joins Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard to replace Paul Brackley

A new general manager has joined Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard to head up the team following the departure of Paul Brackley earlier this year.

The five-star, 202-bedroom hotel has appointed Kurt Macher as GM, who moves to London from his role at The Temple House, Chengdu, China, a luxury Swire Hotel, with a ‘fresh perspective’ on the city.

He replaces Brackley who left earlier this year following three years in the position.

As an international hotelier with over 28 years of experience, Macher has worked for some of the world’s leading hotel brands as general manager and within senior management roles including Wharf Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and The Peninsula Group.

He says: “With its notable achievements, it’s an exciting time to be joining Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London. The hotel has really gone from strength to strength as it celebrates its fifth birthday this year. It is not only becoming one of the most distinguished hotels internationally; with its location in the Shard, it is also becoming one of the most recognised. I very much look forward to building on this success with the team and driving even better results and improved guest engagement.”

William Mackay, executive vice president, Europe and the Americas at Shangri-La International Hotel Management Ltd adds: “It is a pleasure to welcome Kurt into the Shangri-La family. Under his proven leadership, we look forward to continuing to drive the hotel’s development and creating the most memorable of experiences for guests.”

Shangri-La Hotel, The Shard opened in 2014 and is one of 114 hotels in the Shangri-La hotel portfolio.
