The Oak Room at Barnett Hill hotel has appointed a new head chef to continue to drive menu quality and restaurant success.
David James joins the team during a period of high growth for the restaurant and the Alexander Hotels collection as a whole, owners and operators of the four-star hotel in Surrey.
Previously head chef at Burford Bridge Hotel, where he had been working in the kitchen since 2014, James will ‘inject new life’ into The Oak Room menu.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted to be part of The Oak Room team. My vision for the restaurant is to serve contemporary food in a relaxed environment, using local produce that is available on our doorstep. I will ensure myself and my team spend time to carefully create dishes that deliver on flavour, without overcomplicating the experience. I also plan to use classical flavours paired down with modern cooking techniques for an understated and relaxed experience for our guests.”
James joined The Oak Room at the beginning of March and has spent the past six weeks assessing suppliers and selecting the best Surrey ingredients for the new menus.
Prior to joining The Oak Room and his role with Burford Bridge Hotel, James worked across both the corporate and private sectors, including one of England’s top football stadiums.
Ian Heath, group operations director, said: “We are thrilled to have David on board with us at Barnett Hill. His passion for food and extraordinary attention to detail, paired with his relaxed and enjoyable approach is so refreshing. We’re really looking forward to working with David to drive The Oak Room forward.”
Alexander Hotels is owned and operated by Peter and Deborah Hinchcliffe and comprises five properties in the south of England. The group acquired Great Fosters in Egham in November 2018.
