The new owners of the Cloud Hotel in the New Forest are bidding for expansion, one year on from acquiring the award-winning hotel in Brockenhurst.

Chris Legg and Stewart Wills purchased the 17-bedroom property in December 2017 off a guide price of 31.7m and are now seeking consent for a single-storey extension to the back of the building.

They also hope to knock four rooms into three and increase the size of the bathrooms.

The application to build an extension has been submitted to the New Forest National Park Authority (NPA).

Its initial assessment of the proposal says: “The Cloud Hotel is located with the Brockenhurst Conservation Area and has been identified as a building of local significance.

“The site also lies within the defined village boundary and is adjacent to the New Forest SSSI.

“The application seeks planning permission for a small extension upon the rear elevation, with the demolition of two outbuildings.

“The main considerations relate to whether the proposals are appropriate in their scale and design, given the significance of the building.”

The Cloud Hotel was owned and operated for more than 40 years by former Tiler Girl Avril Owton before being sold last year to Legg and Wills who were looking to relocate to the New Forest.

The hotel comprises 17 bedrooms, three lounges, a 50-cover restaurant and function room.
