New plan for £15m destination hotel in Portstewart edges closer to fruition

A plan for the creation of a new four-star spa hotel in Portstewart is edging closing to fruition as planning permission has been submitted by developers.

Scottish-based C&V Developments has submitted an application for a new hotel, spa and leisure complex, complete with holiday cottages and a restaurant, which would see an investment of £15m ploughed into the project.

The application has been submitted to the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for a site at Ballyreagh Road.

A more detailed application is expected to be submitted by August this year and building work could potentially start around March 2017.

Developers propose that the work would take around 18 months, with a view to open the hotel in August 2018.

The couple behind the project is Vivienne Gilholm, a director of C&V Developments and her husband Colin, who say they are in talks with a number of hotel operators but stressed the new hotel would be a ‘destination hotel’ with its own personality.

Speaking to the Coleraine Times, Vivienne said: “We hope to have the planning application together with a consultee report submitted by the end of August. We are looking at a two year build and hope to be open in good time for the Open Golf in 2019.”
