Newly-renovated Great House at Sonning gears up for relaunch under Hugh Osmond ownership

Sonning is about the welcome a new boutique hotel as The Great House gears up to open its doors following a year-long refurbishment under its new ownership.

The Great House was acquired in December 2013 by Sun Capital Partners SCP, headed up by Hugh Osmond, before Sinclair Beecham – co-founder of Pret a Manager and the Hoxton hotel – joined the business in 2014 and it was renamed Mudlark Hotels.

The Great House was acquired alongside the 34-bedroom Newbury Manor and then went on to open the Coppa Club in 2015, a combined restaurant, bar and lounge space.

Over the past year work has been ongoing to transform the whole Grade-II listed property and following a soft opening period, it will officially relaunch on May 1.

The hotel’s events space, The Lodge opened on April 1. The space is made up of five interconnecting rooms that can cater for meetings, weddings and other functions.

The Great House is home to 49 bedrooms, split into five categories, cosy, relaxed, deluxe, deluxe river view and suites and include a mixture of new family rooms that come with a dedicated ‘kids corner’.

Newbury Manor is also currently undergoing a transformation project and will open under the Mudlark Hotels umbrella in 2018.
