Francisco Macedo has been appointed general manager at Cliveden, following the departure of Kevin Brooke.
Macedo first joined the property, which is part of Iconic Luxury Hotels, in September 2018 as operations director from his role as general manager at Bovey Castle.
Andrew Stembridge, executive director at Iconic Luxury Hotels, said Macedo’s ‘strong leadership skills, commercial acumen and boundless energy’ made him the first choice to take over the GM’s role at Cliveden.
Stembridge also said that the business was strong during 2019, having seen a 10% year-on-year increase in top-line revenues and 18% growth in Gross Operating Profit.
He says: “Francisco has achieved a great deal since he joined the Cliveden Team as operations director 15 months ago, and it was therefore inevitable that he was our first choice to take on the role of general manager.
Following substantial investment from our owners London and Regional over recent years, incredible international publicity from the likes of the Royal Wedding and, a number of prestigious awards, Cliveden is in a really good place and I have no doubt that Francisco has the drive and dynamism to keep Cliveden moving forwards at a pace.”
Since October 2016, Kevin Brooke has been general manager at Cliveden and during his three-year tenure he saw the completion of the multi-million pound restoration of Cliveden House, culminating in the opening of the Cliveden Spa and the hosting of Royal bride-to-be Meghan Markle, on the eve of her wedding.
Stembridge thanked Brooke for a job ‘very well done’ and wished him great success for the future.
Macedo’s previous roles include GM at Bovey Castle from 2015 to 2018, operations manager of both Stapleford Park Country House Hotel and The Manor at Weston on the Green, plus restaurant & bars manager at Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: “My promotion to general manager of this truly iconic property is a dream come true, I am delighted and genuinely excited with the opportunities that lie ahead. In addition to improving our guests’ experience, developing wellness and spa programmes, enhancing dining opportunities, and monitoring the environmental impact of our operation at Cliveden, our key focus over the next few years will be to develop and invest in our current team, to create leaders of tomorrow.”
