A hotel and property group with assets in Nigeria has acquired its first hotel in this country as it looks to build an investment portfolio on UK soil.
The Statement Hotel LTD has purchased The Clarendon Hotel in Morecambe off a guide price of £725k having targeted the region specifically for ‘various reasons’, including the draw of the new Eden Project that is expected to attract up to a million visitors every year.
The group will now focus on transforming the 29-bedroom The Clarendon, which was previously used as RAF headquarters during WWII, into a ‘world-class’ destination.
Nonso Ochinanwata of The Statement Hotel LTD commented: “We are delighted to have acquired The Clarendon in Morecombe. Marking our first UK hotel, The Statement Hotel LTD has further intentions of building a broader investment portfolio in the UK market.
“Now the transaction has completed we will be focussing our attention on transforming The Clarendon into a destination hotel with world-class standards.”
The transaction was brokered by Lesley Watmough of leisure property specialists Fleurets, with the sale price undisclosed.
