A new general manager has taken the helm of Barnham Broom Hotel and is bidding to put the property back at the heart of its local community.
Shaun van Looy has joined the independently-owned, four-star Norwich hotel armed with ambitions to encourage more visitors from the surrounding areas to take advantage of the hotel’s vast facilities.
Looy, who has more than 15 years’ experience in hospitality with the likes of Hilton and Hallmark, is previously from Norfolk and hopes to build something at the hotel that will give the property longevity for the next 20 years.
The 300-acre Barnham Broom Hotel, golf and spa resort, welcomes around 200,000 visitors annually and has invested around £2m in renovations over the past five years, which Looy plans to expand on with more development projects in the pipeline.
Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press, Looy said: “At the moment it is about developing the business as strongly as we can so in three to four years when we expand the resort we are in a good place to do so.”
He said the owners of Barnham Broom, who have been at the helm since it opened in 1977, had been ‘patiently trying to find the right person’ to take charge before hiring him this year.
