Oakly Park Estate relaunches boutique hotel in Ludlow with expanded room stock

The Clive Arms in Ludlow, part of the Oakly Park family of businesses, has reopened after an extensive refurbishment that has seen three new bedrooms added to its offering.

Formerly The Clive Restaurant with Rooms, the property on the Earl of Plymouth’s estate has been closed since January to undergo the renovation, with a new bar and dining area, new bedrooms and a new outdoor terrace now unveiled to the public.

The transformation is aiming to re-establish The Clive Arms as a ‘farm to fork’ destination.

The new layout includes a main 40 cover restaurant with further dining opportunities offered in the extended bar area, snug and lounge, as well as the introduction of a new courtyard.

A new paneled private dining room has also been unveiled called The Plassey, which seats up to 14.

A new menu has been created, making use of the estate’s own farms and walled garden, plus ulitlising the hotel’s sister business Ludlow Farmshop.

In keeping with the ‘buy local’ ethos of the estate wherever possible furniture, furnishings and fittings have local connections.

Books from the Earl of Plymouth’s main residence Oakly Park House feature, as well as a painting and bronze of garden designer Capability Brown who was involved in the landscaping of the estate gardens.

Classic British interiors brands such as Lewis & Wood, Colefax & Fowler and Nina Campbell have been used, with lighting from Jim Lawrence and Pooky.

Ludlow ceramics company Marches Pottery designed bespoke lampstands and the bedrooms feature Welsh blankets from Hay-on-Wye based Great English Outdoors.

Three new bedrooms have been created on the first floor of the main building, two suites named Plymouth and Windsor, with freestanding baths in the main room and bathrooms with double drench showers and 100 Acres toiletries.

There is one further standard double room in the rear of the building called Teme furnished in soft greens.

These join the existing 14 courtyard rooms which have all been completely refurbished.
