Plans have been revealed to transform the Old Magistrates Court and Police Station in the heart of Shoreditch in London into a 5-star boutique hotel.
Work has started on the building to create 128 guest rooms, including a mix of new rooms and restoring old ones within the existing structure. There will also be a number of suites developed, as well as a rooftop bar and function area.
There will also be a new build block adjacent to the original building, which will include a variety of bedrooms and a basement function area. The basement will also include a gym, swimming pool, bowling alley and a cinema room.
The hotel, expected to be named Old Street Courthouse Hotel, is located opposite the Old Shoreditch Town Hall in Old Street. The property was run as a live courthouse for almost a century, being home to two court rooms from 1903 until 1996.
The development is being undertaken by McAleer and Rushe, who have described the project as a ‘5 star boutique hotel that will be styled to fit with the new modern art and media image.’
