Plans for two new apart-hotels in Church Street Liverpool, a new care home and hotel extension have been given the green light by councillors this week.
The proposal will part of the old George Henry Lee store transformed into a 105-bed Roomzzz aparthotel, while a similar development was also approved across the road.
The Roomzzz property would sit in vacant space above high street stalwart TK Maxx, with Quest Apartments operating the block opposite after winning permission to convert the two-storey space sitting over Three, Foot Locker and Cotswold Outdoor into a 100-room aparthotel.
Quest already operates some 150 such hotels in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, focused on business travellers.
Meanwhile Signature Living, the booming hotel group responsible for the likes of The Shankly and 30 James Street Hotel, also won approval to put apartments and a care home at the old Bankfield College site in West Derby and a plan to add a glazed rooftop to the Bling Building in Hanover Street.
The projects were part of a raft of new developments approved by Liverpool council’s planning committee, including three blocks in Vauxhall containing 614 apartments.
A report approved by councillors today says: “It is accepted that there has been a rapid growth in the provision of hotel bedrooms but given the lack of interest for retail uses on these upper floors, the bringing back of these areas into full beneficial uses with no adverse impact on the retail function of the area is supported.”
