A proposal has been submitted to transform a former nightclub in Edinburgh into a 26-bed boutique hotel.
Plans submitted by the owners of the former Subway nightclub, the Bruce Group, would see the Cowshed and Barbados venues at the site revamped into a new hotel, restaurant and function room, if given the green light by city council planners.
The bar and restaurant would be established in the Cowshed part of the buildings, while the bedrooms would be formed above the current Barbados nightclub, situated on either side of the George IV Bridge.
An application has been submitted to the city council to change the use of the venues from nightclubs, arts and temporary entertainment spaces into a “boutique hotel, bar/restaurant and function rooms.”
Owners the Bruce Group already runs a number of venues in the city, including The Royal Mile Tavern and The Globe.
The site is adjacent to the Virgin Hotel site, which is currently under construction.
The application also stated that the 26 bedrooms in the hotel will have a ‘Scottish feel to them with a modern twist’.
