Hotels in Windsor have taken full advantage of the announcement that Prince Harry is to marry American actress Meghan Markle in the town by hiking up their prices over the weekend of the Royal Wedding next year.
The couple, whose engagement was revealed at the end of last month, will get hitched at St George’s Chapel next May, and hotels in the area are already banking on a huge surge of demand, with some trebling their prices.
A room at the Holiday Inn which typically costs £82 in April has soared to £259 in May.
Heart of Windsor, a bed and breakfast located 650 yards away from Windsor Castle and home to five bedrooms, is charging up to £219 for a double room, which is a jump on the £89 it usually costs in April.
The Royal Adelaide Hotel, a Grade-II listed property opposite The Long Walk towards the Castle, is already fully booked for the occasion.
