IHG has opened the first Kimpton Hotel in Scotland, rebranding the Principal Charlotte Square in Edinburgh.
The launch follows the opening of the first UK Kimpton property in London, Kimpton Fitzroy, which was formerly Principal London when it opened after an extensive refurbishment in April 2018.
The hotel was then rebranded when Principal Hotel Company sold 12 hotels in its portfolio – including The Principal London – to Convivio, who then licensed their management to InterContinental Hotels Group.
The hotel was renamed Kimpton Fitzroy London in October 2018.
Kimpton Charlotte Square is home to 184 bedrooms and 15 suites as part of seven interconnecting Georgian townhouses.
The opening of Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel marks IHG’s return to the luxury market in Edinburgh, as the first branded luxury hotel in Scotland in over a decade.
This year will see a continuation of this momentum with additional Kimpton hotel openings in Glasgow and Manchester and an InterContinental Hotels & Resorts opening in Edinburgh.
Signature touches within the rebranded Kimpton Charlotte Square include in-room yoga mats and Kimpton’s ‘Forgot It, We’ve Got it’ service offering guest essentials.
There is also a daily ‘social hour’ in the hotel’s BABA bar, plus free fitness and wellness classes.
Karan Khanna, managing director, UK & Ireland, IHG commented: “We are very excited to build our presence in the luxury market in Scotland as we introduce the Kimpton brand. Edinburgh has a real demand for a lifestyle luxury brand and I’m confident that Kimpton’s relaxed approach to luxury will suit the market well.”
IHG currently has 345 hotels* operating under eight brands in the UK, including: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, voco, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites, with another 29 in the pipeline.
