Robert Richardson to step down as GM at The Grand in Folkestone


Robert Richardson, general manager of The Grand in Folkestone has announced he is to step down from the role.

Richardson joined The Grand in 2009 following a period with Hilton Hotels and took the Grade-II listed property from being a local seaside business to an award-winning destination and employer.

In late 2019 The Grand was recognised at the Springboard International Awards as the UK’s Best Hospitality Employer and in April 2020, Richardson was named by Boutique Hotelier as a Young Trailblazer in the Power List.

In Richardson’s time at The Grand he has led the business to numerous successes including: Achieving Disability Confident Committed status as an employer in 2019, The Visit England Gold Awards for Exceptional Quality of Accommodation & Exceptional Customer Service for five years running and becoming the first recipient of The Kent County Council & Medway Councils Hospitality Guild Employer Charter Mark. 

Richardson paid tribute to his team: “I have always referred to the team at The Grand as a family, as that’s what we became. Whomever leads the business into the brave new, post Covid-19, world is going to have an incredible privilege in working with such an amazing group of people, in one of the most amazing businesses and locations in the world.”

Robert Richardson steps down as general manager of The Grand in July 2020. A replacement is being sought.
