Expansion plans to create the first Bike and Boot Hotel have been submitted to local councillors in Scarborough, spearheaded by owners Simon Rhatigan and Simon Kershaw.
Plans first emerged in January that Rhatigan, former managing director at Devonshire Hotels and Restaurant until 2016, and Kershaw, ex-chairman of the northern region of the British Hospitality Association, had purchased the 50-bed The Mount Hotel in Scarborough, to kickstart their new Bike and Boot hospitality brand.
Now it’s been revealed that as well as carry out a complete renovation at five of the terraced building at 1 to 5 Cliff Bridge Terrace, the duo want to extend into the townhouse at 6 Cliff Bridge Terrace and bring the total number of rooms across the business to 59.
In plans submitted to Scarborough Borough Council, Rhatigan and Kershaw want to rebrand The Mount as The Bike and Boot Hotel, as well as create a bike store, boot store, restaurant, dog wash and small cinema on the ground floor.
The original homes were built circa 1840, more than 20 years before its more famous neighbour the Grand Hotel.
The plans for the refurbishment are now out to consultation.
Bike & Boot founders, Simon Rhatigan and Simon Kershaw, said: “We are very excited to be launching this new hotel concept and feel this beautiful site in Scarborough is the ideal location to get started. Our hope is that Bike and Boot will offer a unique escape for not only tourists but also for locals who might wish to visit the restaurant or cinema.”
The duo plan to open a total of four hotels under the new brand, with their second site, a new-build 80-bedroom hotel in the Peak District expected to be complete in 2020.
