SNEAK PEEK: The Langley’s new spa appoints director ahead of epic new opening

The Langley, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Buckinghamshire has appointed a new spa director as it steams towards its opening date in a few months’ time.

Opening in late 2018, The Langley is a new 41-room boutique hotel and 25,000 sq ft spa, owned and managed by City & Country Hotels, situated within 500 acres of Buckinghamshire countryside.

The former hunting lodge of the third Duke of Marlborough will comprise of two buildings, a historic mansion and a Grade-II listed 18th century building that was formerly used as a stables and brew house, transformed over a five-year period.

Now Alex James has joined the team as spa director, ahead of the opening of what is promising to become a ‘world class destination’.

James has over 14 years’ experience within the spa industry, having started her career at several top hotels including The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London and The Spa at The Landmark London, where she joins The Langley from.

In her role at The Langley, James will work alongside the pre-opening team comprised of spa consultants SMC Leisure, Dennis Irvine Studio and Multiplex to support the completion of the build.

She will be responsible for the curation of the treatment menu, liaising with the spa’s brand partners and will be responsible for recruiting a spa team of approximately 25 people, as well as managing membership pre-sales and events.

On her appointment, James commented: “I am thrilled to have joined the pre-opening team at The Langley as we build momentum to its anticipated launch. My ultimate aim is to guide the team to deliver our mission statement, which is to provide an unparalleled spa experience alongside a highly-personalised service tailored to each guests’ needs.

Adding to this, hotel manager David Harris, who was appointed in June, said: “I am delighted that Alex has taken the lead on The Langley Spa. She is a fantastic asset to the team, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table along with a knack for detail and front-of-house management style that is perfectly suited to our ambitions for The Langley. Combined with a personal passion and enthusiasm for the industry, we are positive that the spa will flourish under her direction.”
