Solihull hotel bids to expand by 30 bedrooms as owner submits plans

A hotel in Solihull could be set for a 30-bedroom expansion if a plan submitted by its owner is given the green light.

Strawberry Bank Hotel in Main Road currently comprises 55 bedrooms, with operator Westbourne Leisure now hoping to increase this by 30 rooms with the creation of a new building at the rear of the 18th century Grade-II listed property.

Wetsbourne Leisure said the new proposal would help to bring in ‘another source of income’ for the business.

Solihull Metropolitan District Council is expected to make a final decision on the application in the coming months.

A document submitted to the council on behalf of the applicant said: “The development is anticipated to improve the attractiveness of the club and sustain it through increased patronage and another source of income.

“Westbourne Leisure have successfully diversified their offer when required so that the traditional bar uses are supported by an increased offer of overnight accommodation and food.”
