Style advice: Creating a showstopper

Designing a special suite in a boutique hotel requires careful planning, budget control and innovative thinking: Suna Interior Design shows you how.

A boutique hotel is special because of its individuality, its personality. So when designing a special suite, keep in mind the following to make your showstopper the ultimate masterpiece.

You want your guests to be wowed by your rooms. Let the rooms be a unique experience, one that your guests want to keep revisiting.

Use luxurious and opulent feature furniture that makes a design statement. We’d suggest using bespoke-made furniture as this will ensure that your furniture both fits the room perfectly and that your guests will never have seen it before. For example this bespoke, punch-button, headboard (pictured). Along with the generous bed and luxurious velvet pillows and throw, this bed is inviting and draws guests to it.

Be brave and experiment with wall finishings. Don’t limit yourself to only papering the walls; we have used feature wallpaper on ceilings, as can be seen in the image shown here. This beautiful paper creates major impact and has made the space unique.

Lighting is incredibly important so use a selection of lighting options to enable guests to create the mood they desire. Grand hanging pendants, glimmering bedside lights, floor lamps; there are so many beautiful options available. Make your rooms glow with the perfect combination of lamps and pendants.

Design that is different and pushes the boundaries is what will make your rooms memorable and give guests and experience that they wouldn’t get at home. An idea that may be worth exploring and then relating back to the design is your hotel’s USP. Location is often an influencing factor that can be used to create a unique atmosphere and experience.

The ultimate design will be one that is bespoke, memorable and has a little ‘je ne sais quoi’. Try to source accessories that will add interest to every corner and ones which have a little story behind them. After all, intriguing is the name of the game.
