The Chestnut Group to rebuild The Blackbirds Inn in January 2019

Next year The Chestnut Group is to begin the rebuild of The Blackbirds Inn in Woodditton following a fire that devastated the property in March.

The group revealed that Listed Building Consent has been granted for the rebuild of the hotel, commencing this January with an aim to reopen the pub in autumn 2019.

The Chestnut Group, founded by BH’s December cover star Philip Turner, has been working closely with local planners and the conversation officer to ensure the structure will be sensitively rebuilt.

Philp Turner, founder of The Chestnut Group commented “I am so pleased we can move forward with our plans to renovate and reopen The Blackbirds Inn. I’d like to thank our loyal guests and local community for bearing with us and we very much look forward to welcoming them back next year.”

The cause of the fire in Match this year, in which nobody was harmed, is yet to be determined but the group confirmed soon after that its insurance company had accepted liability for the blaze.

The Chestnut Group acquired The Three Blackbirds pub in autumn 2016. The Grade-II listed building was then re-opened in March 2017 as The Blackbirds Inn.

The Chestnut Group comprises five country pubs with rooms in East Anglia and two coastal inns which were acquired earlier in the year from Agellus Hotels.

We chat to Philip Turner in the December edition of Boutique Hotelier to discover his plans for growth and championing hospitality in the region.
