The Grand Hotel to feature new speakeasy basement bar

The Grand Hotel, Birmingham, is to partner with the Liquor Store to create an underground, hidden speakeasy bar in the hotel’s basement.

There will also be a shop on the upper level, joining The Alchemist, which opened earlier this year and also has a basement bar.

It is hoped the partnership will boost business for all parties involved. The Liquor Store, an independent retailer of gin, whisky and craft beers, will open in March, doubling its number of sites.

Phil Hazel, owner of the retailer and new partner of The Grand Hotel, told Birmingham Mail: “It will be like a gentlemen’s club bar, it will have a members feel to it but you won’t need to be a member to get in. We’re not going to advertise it so people will only hear about it through word of mouth.”

He added: “The Grand Hotel is a really nice development, they’ve done a really good job. We’re confident about our new move.”
