Travelodge defies industry staff shortage with record applications for new hotel in Gainsborough


Nationwide budget hotel chain Travelodge has received a record number of applications for job roles at its new hotel in Gainsborough, fighting against the hospitality industry’s staff shortage.

The brand received over 1,000 applications for 15 job vacancies at its new property which is due to open its doors on October 22, saying it is the most ever collected for the brand.

The recruitment drive began at the start of September, with positions such as receptionists, housekeepers and admin needing to be filled by the hotel’s manager Tarnya Roberts.

The 56-bedroom Gainsborough Travelodge is the town’s first branded hotel and has cost £4m to build on the site of the former Sun Inn, which was demolished in 2017.

Gainsborough is one of 11 new hotels Travelodge is opening across the country in the run-up to Christmas. Collectively, this represents an investment of £79 million, creating 260 new jobs. The company operates a total of 554 UK hotels.
