Unsung Heroes: John Badley, regional general manager, Andrew Brownsword Hotels


John Badley currently oversees six sites within the Andrew Brownsword Hotels portfolio, supporting acquisitions, major renovations and rejuvenations and group projects. He looks after Gidleigh Park, Amberley Castle and The Imperial in Torquay, among others.

Described as a ‘natural leader’ John guides general managers across the group to make quality decisions based on industry knowledge and keen financial awareness.

John was also in charge at The Royal Clarence Hotel when a fire broke out in the middle of the night, completely destroying the building. He crisis-managed the situation throughout, maintaining a diligent, professional manner towards guests and staff and supporting the business to the highest integrity.

John is also on the board for the Institute of Hospitality and the South West group of Hospitality Action to further his passion to improve and give back to the industry as a whole. He also works with schools, colleges and university to overcome the recruitment challenge that prevails, to educate, inspire and collaborate for a better future for the hospitality sector.
