For the past six months, Phil Brown has been head of operations at Lucky Onion. The cluster of Cotswolds hotels, pubs and restaurants is owned by retail mogul Julian Dunkerton, with each property renowned across the region for its unique character, personality and top hospitality offering.
The Lucky Onion Group comprises No. 131, No. 38 The Park, The Tavern, The Wild Duck in Cirencester and The Wheatsheaf Inn in Northleach. Last year planning was submitted to expand No.131 into a neighbouring building, as the group looked to grow the business to a capacity of 40 bedrooms in total to cater for increasing demand.
Now with Phil on board, the group looks to well positioned to ramp up this development. Describing himself as an ‘experienced senior manager with a demonstrated history of working in the hospitality and services industry, he has a strong background across the sector, having dabbled in catering, restaurant management, budgeting, food & beverage, information technology and management.
He started his career with Hotel du Vin, where he worked for just over four years progressing through to deputy general manager before departing the brand for a project management role at Malmaison in 2005.
Over the next few years he developed his skills in project management and worked for a number of key hospitality brands, such as Principal Hotel Company, Mitchells & Butlers and then area manager for Bath Ales, expanding his breadth of industry knowledge further.
He joined Lucky Onion in October 2018 from his role as senior vice president, hospitality consultant at Avenue9, part of JLL Hotels & Hospitality.
