Luxury hotel, Watergate Bay in Cornwall is to open a new bar in 2019.

Inspired by the sunset’s ‘green flash’, the new Watchful Mary bar will be situated in a new two-floor building on the sea wall, replacing the original RNLI hut.

The bar will launch in summer 2019, with the hotel’s owners, the Ashworth family, teasing its arrival with a dedicated website detailing the new venture’s development.

Plans to transform the RNLI hut were first unveiled in December 2017, with the idea for a new Crab Shack restaurant detailed by owner Will Ashworth. It is thought the new Watchful Mary bar will be replacing this original proposal.

The first floor of the hut will provide a much larger, purpose built permanent home for the lifeguard service and will also include a new area for the Watergate Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.

The second floor and terrace has been developed for the new bar.

Watergate Bay is now in its 51th year of family ownership; the business boasts average occupancy levels of 92% and turns over £11m with a work force of 250 employees.
