The Stroud Hotel in Gloucestershire has now opened 24 bedrooms after an extensive refurbishment under its new ownership.

The Grade-II listed hotel has been undergoing a £3m renovation since being acquired by S2 Estates in 2022 and opened its new The Stroud Restaurant and Bucknall Bar space in January.

Now its 24 bedrooms are ready to welcome guests, with room types ranging from cosy and deluxe to suites and family rooms.

The Stroud Hotel also offers Pop Fit classes headed up by creative director Steph Burrows.

Ross Sanders at A & Leisure, which operates the hotel, says: “We are thrilled to unveil The Stroud Hotel. Our vision is to create a unique atmosphere where guests can immerse themselves in the beauty of the Cotswolds, while enjoying exceptional hospitality and service.”

Originally known as The Imperial, The Stroud Hotel was built in 1865 by Benjamin Bucknall, an architect renowned for his gothic Revival Style.

Over the years, the hotel underwent various changes, including the addition of a billiard room in 1867.

It passed through different hands, and in 1924 it changed ownership heralding a new era as an ‘artist lounge and hotel retreat’.

In 1950 the hotel underwent significant refurbishment, coinciding with a visit from Princess Elizabeth. It was during the Queen’s Jubilee that the hotel was given its Grade-II listing.

In 2022, S2 Estates acquired the property and took on £3m renovation project.

The Bucknall Bar has been named after the architect who designed the building.

Michael Condry, general manager, says: “We take pride in offering a venue that caters to every need, whether it’s wedding, corporate event or intimate gathering. From the exquisite cuisine to impeccable service, we ensure that every detail is perfect for our guests.”
