Chef Kevin Tickle has stepped down from his role at Forest Side in Grasmere to ‘embark on new projects’.
The chef and his team opened the restaurant at the hotel, which is part of Wildsmith Hotels in the Lake District, in February 2016 and within eight months of opening secured 3 AA Rosettes for the eatery.
In October of that year he also scooped a Michelin star.
Now after much deliberation, Tickle has taken the decision to step down from the restaurant to initially take some time out to spend with his growing young family.
He will then begin the next stage of his career with ‘exciting projects’ ahead.
In 2017, Kevin’s restaurant was awarded 4 AA Rosettes and this year was recognised with a top 20 ranking in the 2019 National Restaurant Awards.
Commenting on his decision, Kevin Tickle, said: “This has been a long and rewarding journey for myself and my team. I am really proud of what we have achieved in the last few years and I would like to thank all the suppliers, staff and guests for their support.
“I have been blessed with the most hard-working and dedicated team of chefs and couldn’t have done it without them – thanks guys.”
General manager at Forest Side, Alasdair Elwick says: “We’d like to thank Kevin for his time spent with us, during which he’s taken the restaurant from strength to strength with his innovative use of Cumbrian produce and achieved Michelin-star and four AA Rosette status, amongst various other recent awards.
“Details of a new head chef appointment will be announced in due course. Senior sous chef Ian Waller and the team will continue to deliver the modern cuisine inspired by the landscape of the Lakes which we have become acclaimed for here at The Forest Side – a reputation which we will continue to nourish and develop. We would like to wish Kevin every success in his future ventures.“
Lake District based Wildsmith Hotels is headed up by Andrew Wildsmith and comprises The Ryebeck and Hipping Hall, alongside The Forest Side.
