Swinton Estate’s £8m development sees two new chefs join the force

As Yorkshire’s Swinton Estate gears up to unveil its new £8m country club and spa, the hotel has announced the appointment of two new chefs to help drive forward the F&B experience at the new addition.

The site, which is one of England’s largest privately-owned estates, is currently undergoing vast expansion building the new country club and spa, which is the vision of owners of Mark and Felicity Cunliffe-Lister.

As part of the development, the country club’s eatery The Terrace Restaurant and Bar has welcomed Christopher McPhee as the new head chef.

McPhee joins with a wealth of experience, having worked at Bovey Castle in Devon; Alexander House in Sussex; Monachyle Mhor Hotel in Perthshire and The Three Chimneys on the Isle of Skye, in his native Scotland.

Also new to the Swinton team is Mehdi Amiri who is joining as head chef of Samuel’s, the restaurant at Swinton Park.

The new country club and spa is located adjacent to Swinton Park, the 32-bedroom hotel and cookery school, sitting in the 20,000 acre estate as part of the site.

Amiri brings experience from the likes of Wynyard Hall Hotel, Dormy House, Etihad Airways and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

Both restaurants celebrate produce from the estate including the 4-acre walled garden and the local area.

Claire Jones, managing director, Swinton Estate commented: “We are so lucky to have these two amazingly talented chefs working for us on the Estate. Christopher and Mehdi each have their own food style and personality, complementing each other beautifully. With the skill of these two in the kitchens and the incredible larder of seasonal produce right on our doorstep, Samuel’s and the new Terrace Restaurant will really offer our guests – both local and resident – two wonderfully different choices for dining, from July.”
